You might remember that in the last Shipping News, I talked about the
fact that AfterElton is currently holding the Ultimate Slash Madness Tournament
- in which 32 of our favourite slash couples are battling it out for the title
of Ultimate Slash Champion. Now it’s pretty easy to guess that I am a
tad excited about this poll, I mean I love me some slash and I can never say no
to good poll but I have discovered recently that I might be in minority in this
(at least outside fandom circles). So in order to drum up some excitement from
my family and friends I have compiled a list of my top 10 slash ships (not all
of them are in the poll but I still love them so they are here).

Guilty Pleasures: Don't tell the bride I love Wedding shows
Last week I presented a call to
arms. Sick and tired of being ashamed of liking so called low culture I decided
it was time to come clean. So sometimes I like things that are not considered
cool but considering the fact that these things are usually referred to as
“popular culture” it doesn’t seem right to be ashamed of it. In an effort to
get more people to admit their guilty pleasures, and as such create a safer
space to enjoy popular culture, I am going to be admitting one of mine every
Sunday. Seeing as I already spend Sunday in a haze of shame and guilt from
whatever happened on Saturday night it shouldn’t be that difficult. This week I
have chosen to admit one of my darkest secrets: I love Wedding shows.

Fangirl 101: A beginner’s guide to Slash
Over the past week, after my
introduction of the series “Shipping News” I have encountered some trouble with
people asking me – what the hell is slash? I mentioned it briefly in my
introduction to shipping but it appears I need to add further clarification for
those of you that are either not involved with or new to the world of online
fandom.

Fangirl Confessions: How I met the Doctor
This is the story of my first experience with Doctor Who, as has been requested here. There aren't really any spoilers but it is a tad sentimental so enter at your own risk.

Shipping news: Slash (and femSlash) gets a moment in the sun thanks to AfterEllen and AfterElton
Hello lonely shippers (and those
soon to be shippers), I’m sure you’re all still a little bit upset with what happened at EW.com but have no fear because I bring you good news. This week in the
wonderful world of shipping we get our very own poll and we never ever have to
go to the EW website again.
Doctor Who’s Top Ten Tearjerkers - Part 3
It's finally here! The top two tearjerkers from Doctor Who. I would say that I am sorry I upset you, but I know you love it really. That's why we watch this show because we love to have our hearts ripped out on a weekly basis... also aliens.

Doctor Who’s Top Ten Tearjerkers - Part 2
Yesterday I presented 10 - 7 of the most tear inducing moments of Doctor Who (since 2005). Today I return with another 4 and they are sadder than ever. Warning you may need tissues, also it should go without saying but in case it doesn't, there are spoilers in this blog.
Don't forget to read part one here.

Doctor Who’s Top Ten Tearjerkers - Part 1
With the departure of the Ponds fast approaching I thought it might be a
good idea to warm up our tear ducts. In preparation I have decided to torture
myself, and you my lonely reader by re-living some of the most heartbreaking
moments in Doctor Who history - well at least since the 2005 reboot.
If you have not seen up to season six of Doctor Who there will be
spoilers, but if that is the case then you have bigger problems... seriously do
watch it now.
I’ve split this list into three posts, just to build the tension. Also
there were way to many feels to deal with in one day.

Fangirl Confession: I actually kind of (really) like Twilight and other guilty pleasures.
I know I know, I’m not supposed to say it. I realise we are all supposed to pretend that a few years ago we weren’t entirely obsessed with an insipid teenage girl and her stalker vampire boyfriend. But I never was much good with social etiquette. Besides I have always advocated against hiding our pop culture shames because of that one time Hansen were awesome and then suddenly I wasn’t allowed to like them. I’m not ashamed to admit it, I liked Twilight when it first came out and I still like it now.
Shipping News: Hell hath no fury like a (Sterek) shipper scorned.
The plan with this post was to begin a weekly segment that outlines all the biggest news from the world of “shipping” - I’ve mentioned “shipping” before, so if you have no idea what I'm talking about then please head here first (if you have stumbled across this because you are interested in actual nautical adventures then please exit the page now). I meant for it to encompass, all ships and all shows but when I sat down to write it there is really only one thing that is worthy of discussion and that’s a little ship by the name of “Sterek”.

The Sapphires and five more feel good Australian films you might not have heard of.
The Sapphires, in case you haven’t heard, is a new Australian film
starring Chris O’Dowd and Deborah Mailman, which was released in (Aussie)
cinema’s this week (released in the UK in November but no USA release date yet).
Based on the exploits of an Indigenous Australian girl group that toured
Vietnam in the late 1960s, this film is the definition of a feel-good film. If
I sound shocked, it’s because I am, we don’t set to see that many well-made
Australian films have don’t leave me in a deep depression – at least not ones
that don’t deal exclusively in stereotypes (Crocodile
Dundee anyone?) Seriously sometimes I understand why the Australian people don’t
want to see Australian films. But then every so often a film like this comes
along and I am reminded that when we do it right, it’s bloody good.
After seeing The Sapphires I wanted to shout from the roof top about how good it
was and I planned on writing a review, basically in the hopes that I could
convince people to go and see this fantastic film. The problem is I have never
been particularly good at reviewing; besides the whole process doesn’t really
work if I’m really trying to write a call to arms. I mean I could tell you what’s
wrong with this film, it is by no means perfect (it’s not The Avengers after all) but there is more good than bad so really
what’s the point? Instead I thought I would give you a list of other feel good
Australian films that will compliment your viewing of The Sapphires… you see what I did there, I’m just going to assume you’re
going to see it, that way you will have to.
