Most Intriguing Characters on TV at the moment: September 2011

I did this earlier this year and I found it really interesting so I figured that I would revisit to see, who has caught my attention in recent television and who I am looking forward to watching as the Fall season commences. As usual I feel the need to tell you that this blog is incredibly bias but I am also open to argument... if you think I'm wrong or you just want to tell me who you would pick then please comment. Come on, I promise I won't prove you wrong too hard. 

 

Restraining the promiscuous woman: Glee's need to make Brittany conform to societies expectations of sex and love in "Duets"

I know I said I was going to be writing today, but I caved and decided to watch my new Glee season 2 DVD. I am totally procrastination queen but anyway, I got to "Duets" and something really stood out and that was the storyline between my beloved Brit Brit and Artie.

New Year, New Season: My hopes are ready to be crushed in the 2011/2012 season.

It's that time again, that's right all our favourite (American) TV shows are about to return to out screens after the long summer hiatus. Filming started a few months ago, so the spoilers are out there, we've started to get the promos so we have an idea about what's going to happen – or at least what the networks want us to think is going to happen. Waiting is at it's worst, because it's so close yet so far, but this is still my favourite time. All that anticipation, all that hope, this is the moment when you can dream that all those things you want to happen will finally appear on the screen.

Before all that reality ruins the fantasy that is happening in the fandom everywhere I thought I would write about what I am looking forward to. Not only is this a bit of fun, but it's educational as well, because I'm sure you're all looking to me to work out what shows are worth returning to (or catching up on) in the new season.

Where to begin, where to begin – ah yes with the beginning...

“Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.”

This is one of three opening sentences that I know off by heart (if you're curious the other two are Pride and Prejudice and The Bible). You can kind of guess the importance I place on this book simply by those associations.

Ok this really isn't going to work.... I can't just write about every single line in all of these books, well actually I could, quite happily, but no one else want to read that and if my poor mother might die trying.

There are just so many things I could write about each one of these books, so I think it would be best if I pick a theme and stick to it. The theme for this blog is none other then my beloved sidekick, Neville Longbottom... the boy that almost was the hero.

A fangirl outburst dedicated to Harry Potter – and plans for more to come...

Guess what... It all ends on July 15. By that I mean the final Harry Potter film is being released, which means that one of the most important parts of my childhood is coming to an end. Find out why this means so much to me and what I am going to do to pay tribute...

Seeing Rainbows: Fierce, Samurai Sword-Swinging, Victorian, Interspecies, Lesbians who fight crime in Space... also Dianna Agron doesn't 'Like Girls' and X-Man-on-Man.

It's Gay and Lesbian pride month so I thought it would be a good time to begin what will probably become a pretty regular feature of this blog – A look in to every text and subtext that is in anyway homoerotic.

Those of you that have the misfortune of studying with me will probably know that I have a gift for seeing gay. By that I mean that I can find the homoerotic subtext in anything and because everyone enjoys my evaluations so much (by everyone I mean me) I thought I would share them with you, my lonely reader. I'm talking about looking at pop-culture though rainbow tinted glasses, everything from out and proud gay love to suggestive looks. But I guess that is enough jabbering for now, let's get to the good stuff.

Hellatus Catch Up: Supernatural

I don't know about you but I am spending the long hiatus months catching up on all those television programs that I always meant to watch but never got around to. I'm always open to suggestions so I figured maybe others would be too.

What television shows should you catch up on before next season? It's one of life's most difficult questions, but it needs to be asked... never fear, I have the answer for you. I am going to write a series of blogs about the programs I think best deserve your attention during this TV drought period. These are the shows that you absolutely must be ready to tune in to when they return next season. Anyone who has had any contact with me over the past 6 months is not going to be surprised by my first choice. I'll give you a hint anyway, two brothers, a muscle car and no more ovaries. 

Hellatus Viewing: lost in Lost – Season One

 

I've been writing all these blogs about what everyone else should watch during the long months of hellatus (or hiatus for you non-Supernatural folk out there). That horrible time when all your favourite shows have ended and all you can do is stare at your tumblr dash until they start up again. Then I thought I should take my own advice, I am pretty smart after all. I am not going to let this horrible time get me down I am going to be proactive and use this period to watch all those shows I always meant to (and some I didn't) but never got around to.

As you have probably guessed from this title my first television mission is Lost. You can blame Neffy for this one, she's been going on about this program since I met her (when we are not discussing Supernatural of course). I probably wouldn't have watched it either but I asked her to bring something home from Blockbuster to entertain me and this is what I got.

Gone But Not Forgotten: Gilmore Girls

It's post number two in this awesome theme, which is a good thing for me because it means that I am actually sticking to something. Yay for me.

It's not secret that I am partial to Sci-Fi and Fantasy programming but there is another kind of television show that I am particularly fond of, the quirky small town drama and in this category I don't think you can get much better than, Gilmore Girls.

The best parts are when they cry: Supernatural's most heartbreaking moments

In honour of the heart-wrenching Supernatural season 6 finale, Neffy and I have decided to compile a list (yes it's a list sue me, they're fun) of the most heartbreaking moments in Supernatural's history. Let me just say, this is not an easy task. Supernatural has some of the most upsetting moments ever to appear on television. It should really be called lets try to break the Winchesters in every way possible, over and over and over again. But then, we love it don't we. As meta fangirl/publisher Sera put it “the best parts are when they cry” (“The Monster at the End of This Book” 4.18).
