Catch-Up TV: Ten Reasons to Watch Arrow

Teen Wolf is on hiatus so I needed to get my cheesy supernatural fix from somewhere – I figured why not give the CW’s Arrow a second chance. I watched the first couple of episodes of Season 1 as they aired but it didn’t hook me to I gave it up (there’s only so many shows I can watch at once). I’m kind of bummed I didn’t stick it out because it turns out that once it found it’s groove Arrow is actually pretty awesome. Why is it is awesome? Well here’s ten reasons just to get you started.

Eight Celebrities I Fell For in 2013

This year, like all that have come before it, had its ups and downs. But there is one that remains constant… my uncontrollable hormones. Every year I add to the ever-increasing list of people I am a little bit in love with, despite the fact that we have never met. While I don’t completely buy into the myth of celebrity, I am quite happy to play the game and I’m always willing to indulge a fantasy. So before we reach 2014, I thought I would take a look back at all the people that have captured my heart over the last 12 months (it’s not ten because I only have so much love to give).

Top Ten Warrior Women on TV

Some of you are probably already upset by my use of the term ‘warrior women’ but I just really love alliteration. This list could probably more accurately be called top ten female soldiers, but warrior women is so much more fun don’t you think? Anyway this list is about women who are also soldiers, and heroes. Known for their physical abilities and often associated with their incredibly cool weapons these fantastic women are just like their male counterparts only female. It doesn’t matter what else you say about them, in the event of any combat situation, these are the girls you want on your side.

The Best and Worst of Teen Wolf Season 3a

Before this season started I was planning on writing a top ten list of the best moments. But now we have come to the end of 3a I feel like just writing about the seasons best moments would not be an accurate representation of the season as a whole. These 12 episodes gave us some of the best Teen Wolf moments ever, but the thing is, it also gave us some of the worst. This season is difficult because when it was good it was brilliant but when it was bad it was terrible. For that reason I have decided that instead of the top ten best moments I would give you the best and worst of the most polarizing season (or half season) of Teen Wolf yet.

Right so I have finally completed my recaps of Teen Wolf Season 1 and I will be moving onto Season 2 tomorrow but I’m just not quite ready to let go just yet. As a way of wrapping things up and also remembering everything that made the debut Season so memorable I have compiled a list of my Top 10 Teen Wolf Moments from Season 1.

Game of Thrones Top 10 Watercooler moments (Season 1 & 2)

Game of Throne is everyone’s favourite television show and it’s almost time for Season 3. Seriously though, even people that don’t like TV love Game of Thrones. Part of that is George R.R. Martin’s fantastic story but a lot of it comes from HBO’s amazing adaptation. Really it’s the first fantasy production that manages to encapsulate what I love about this genre (on television anyway). There are almost as many reasons to love Game of Thrones as there are people that love it. There is not enough time for me to talk about them all so I’m going to feature one of the things that makes Game of Thrones great… its ability to get people talking. Without further ado – here are the top ten moments that had people crowding around the watercooler to discuss them on Monday mornings.

Top Ten Grand Romantic Gestures (Movies)

It’s the time of year when everything turns shades of pink, Hallmark accountants rub their hands together and florists are run off their feet.  That’s right it’s all about the couples in February because Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. This totally commercial and ridiculously sentimental holiday is, if nothing else, an excellent excuse for a top ten list. Because while I shy away from anything mushy and romantic in my day to day life I do love it in fiction. My topic for today is “grand romantic gestures”. You know those moments in movies when the hero or heroine must prove their love by performing embarrassing and possibly illegal acts.

13 things I’m looking forward to in 2013

It’s 2013, can you believe it? I guess I have to believe it, but I’m not ready to accept it just yet. Whether or not I want it to or not, 2013 is happening so I may as well embrace it. To get pumped for the year to come I have compiled a list of 13 things I’m looking forward to in 2013. Despite my problems with the speed of time there are actually quite a few things to get excited about this year including a bunch of blockbuster movies, some discussion worthy television and a couple of books. Right well I should stop procrastinating and get on with the list already then we can all get on with making 2013 the best year yet.

10 Ships that ruled 2012

These are not my favorite ships (although some of my favs did make the list), these are the ships that I think have had the most impact this year. These ships either have super active fandoms, win all the polls, are the most talked or simply have the most potential. That said, I’m not an impartial observer and I don’t pretend to be – this list comes from my own observations and it’s the best that I can come up with when I have a killer hangover.

Top 10 Christmas Movies

It’s that time of year again, where we deck the halls, try to be merry and hope to catch that special someone under the mistletoe (although I have never actually seen mistletoe so I am starting to think it’s an urban myth). Anyway last year I counted down my favourite Christmas television episodes and specials, this year I thought why not give the feature films a go. This list is hardly original and I highly doubt anyone will be shocked by the films that made the cut but I wanted to spread some holiday cheer so this is happening and you will like it or you will be on my naughty list (which is not nearly as fun as it sounds).

One of my best friends has recently gotten addicted to the Skins youtube channel – it happens – and she sent me this video, a Top 5 Skins moments, and asked me to give me my top 5 moments… because I figure more is actually more I am going to give you my top 10 moments (also because it’s kind of a theme on this blog). It’s taken me a while (and a re-watch) to compile this list but I hope you enjoy my Top 10 Skins Moments.

It’s my mum’s birthday and because I am a wonderful daughter I thought why not make a top ten list to celebrate… after much thought and discussion my mother requested I compile a list of my top 10 movie musicals. Top Ten: Male/Female friendships on TV

I recently gave you my top ten slash and femslash ships and ages ago I wrote a list of the most epic romance on TV… So I guess it’s pretty clear that I love romance (as long as it’s of the fictional variety). But I don’t want you to think that’s the only reason I love popular culture. I don’t just ship everyone romantically sometimes I like a good old-fashioned friendship. Which is exactly what I am going to be celebrating.

This top ten list isn’t just about any kind of friendship, no the ones listed here are all platonic male/female friendships. They are difficult to find – it seems that everyone agreed with When Harry Met Sally. But I think these friendships prove that when a guy and a girl are best friends it can be a beautiful thing without ever turning to romance.

My Top Ten femSlash Ships

If you are new to fandom (or this website in particular), then you might not know that AfterEllen and AfterElton are currently holding tournaments in order to determine the best femslash and slash ship in the whole of the Internets. This excites me to no end because it encompasses my two favourite things - polls and slash. I love a good argument more than anything, and the fact that we’re arguing about slash just makes it that much better.

So anyway, to show my enthusiasm and perhaps even convert some of you to the wonderful world of shipping slash I decided to compile a list (everyone loves a top 10 list). I have already posted my top ten male/male slash ships but that’s just the warm up for this one... It’s the ladies turn, that’s right I am about to tell you my all time favourite female/female femslash ships.

You might remember that in the last Shipping News, I talked about the fact that AfterElton is currently holding the Ultimate Slash Madness Tournament - in which 32 of our favourite slash couples are battling it out for the title of Ultimate Slash Champion. Now it’s pretty easy to guess that I am a tad excited about this poll, I mean I love me some slash and I can never say no to good poll but I have discovered recently that I might be in minority in this (at least outside fandom circles). So in order to drum up some excitement from my family and friends I have compiled a list of my top 10 slash ships (not all of them are in the poll but I still love them so they are here).
