While Star Trek always had a strong female following, and the rise
of the Internet in the 1990s had created an increasing number of female
dominated fandom spaces, Doctor Who was definitely a boys club. But that all
changed in 2005, because of an ordinary shop girl called Rose Tyler.

Top Ten Warrior Women on TV
Some of you are probably already upset by my use of the term
‘warrior women’ but I just really love alliteration. This list could probably
more accurately be called top ten female soldiers, but warrior women is so much
more fun don’t you think? Anyway this list is about women who are also
soldiers, and heroes. Known for their physical abilities and often associated
with their incredibly cool weapons these fantastic women are just like their
male counterparts only female. It doesn’t matter what else you say about them,
in the event of any combat situation, these are the girls you want on your
side.

Adventures in Fandom: Doctor New, The Red Wedding and Teen Wolf Season 3
Another week down and what a week it was. First was the announcement
that Matt Smith would retire from his role as the Doctor after this years
Christmas special. This is terribly sad news of course, it’s never nice to
watch the Doctor die and it’s shame to lose Matt Smith but it also means that
serious speculation about who will taker over the role can begin… it’s
exciting. Then Game of Thrones
invited us to the wedding of the season and it was a celebration to die for.
Also, there’s this little MTV show that you may or may not have heard of,
called Teen Wolf that is finally back
in our lives after the Season 3 premiere on Monday night.

Shipping News: What the hell is a “Gay Payoff”?
Sorry guys, I am the slackest of slack but it’s been a big
week/weekend of answering stupid questions so this weeks Shipping News has to
make up for missing last weeks. Anyway this week: Colton and Barrowman on a
plane, Doctor Who breathes life into
a classic ship and slash fans cringe at their “Gay Payoff”.

Shipping News: New Year, same ships.
First Shipping
News of 2013 and there is A LOT to cover because I have been super slack
over the holiday period (I had a chest infection and my best friend got
married… it’s not my fault). Anyway I’m back now and I have shipping fun for
everyone. This week there’s magical lesbians, more Teen Wolf drama, Catching
Fire pics, Merthur’s tragic ending, another Supernatural baby and some spoilery tweets from Ryan Murphy.

13 things I’m looking forward to in 2013
It’s 2013, can you believe it? I guess I have to believe it, but I’m not ready to accept it just yet. Whether or not I want it to or not, 2013 is happening so I may as well embrace it. To get pumped for the year to come I have compiled a list of 13 things I’m looking forward to in 2013. Despite my problems with the speed of time there are actually quite a few things to get excited about this year including a bunch of blockbuster movies, some discussion worthy television and a couple of books. Right well I should stop procrastinating and get on with the list already then we can all get on with making 2013 the best year yet.

Shipping News: Mostly break ups, also magical lesbians (sort of).
Downton Abbey, Doctor Who and Glee are all about
breaking up. Once Upon a Time makes
me ship all the femslash. AfterElton
let’s me and 4 other so-called slash experts loose and Sterek fans are still
fighting hard (and even winning sometimes).
Spoilers for Downton Abbey,
Glee, Once Upon a Time, Doctor Who
and The Vampire Diaries.

Monday’s with Mo: The Angels took Manhattan and River stole mum's hearts
It’s another weekly segment, but
this time with a twist. I have for the past 2 years, been introducing my poor
mother to the wonders of my popular culture tastes. It’s only fair really as
she did the same for me when I was a child. Really it’s her fault that I am the
way that I am. Considering the influence she’s had and the fact that I test
most of my meta out on her first before posting it here, I thought it was about
time she got the chance to shine.
It’s fitting that her first post
should be concerned with Doctor Who,
as the reason I found this fantastic program was because of her… and it’s kind
of bitter sweat that we are beginning this series with an end. It’s the end of
the Ponds time with the Doctor, but the start of your time with Mo. You’re welcome.

Top Ten: Male/Female friendships on TV
I recently gave you my top ten slash and
femslash ships and ages ago I wrote a list of the most epic romance on TV… So I
guess it’s pretty clear that I love romance (as long as it’s of the fictional
variety). But I don’t want you to think that’s the only reason I love popular
culture. I don’t just ship everyone romantically sometimes I like a good
old-fashioned friendship. Which is exactly what I am going to be celebrating.
This top ten list isn’t just about any kind
of friendship, no the ones listed here are all platonic male/female
friendships. They are difficult to find – it seems that everyone agreed with When Harry Met Sally. But I think these
friendships prove that when a guy and a girl are best friends it can be a
beautiful thing without ever turning to romance.

Shipping News: Equal opportunity kissing with Doctor Who and more slash/femslash madness.
It’s been a couple of weeks since my last instalment of this silly little series and the world of shipping has moved on without me… and boy has it been moving. The Doctor locked lips with someone unexpected, your fav slash and femslash ships are still battling it out, John Barrowman talks Sterek and Tumblr starting shipping AfterElton with Vh1. As you can see there is much to discuss so let’s get started.
*mild spoilers for new Doctor Who

Doctor Who’s Top Ten Tearjerkers - Part 1
With the departure of the Ponds fast approaching I thought it might be a
good idea to warm up our tear ducts. In preparation I have decided to torture
myself, and you my lonely reader by re-living some of the most heartbreaking
moments in Doctor Who history - well at least since the 2005 reboot.
If you have not seen up to season six of Doctor Who there will be
spoilers, but if that is the case then you have bigger problems... seriously do
watch it now.
I’ve split this list into three posts, just to build the tension. Also
there were way to many feels to deal with in one day.

“Lives ruined, bloodshed”: Top 10 Epic Romances on the Small Screen - Part 1
I
am not a romantic person, if any of thing 'romantic' happened to me I
would run from the room screaming 'fire' and the whole till death do
us part thing actually has me breaking out in hives but I love watching it play out on television. I can't help it, when
I see two people in love on the screen in front of me I get all
giggly and my heart starts to flutter (something that often confuses
the people I am dating... “you seemed to like it when they did it
on TV”). Why am I telling you this incredibly pointless personal
story – it's simple I needed a lead in for this list and I am
totally narcissist so I just like talking about myself. So you know –
reasons, I like TV romance so I am going to inflict my love on you,
my lonely reader.

Seeing Rainbows: Fierce, Samurai Sword-Swinging, Victorian, Interspecies, Lesbians who fight crime in Space... also Dianna Agron doesn't 'Like Girls' and X-Man-on-Man.
It's Gay and Lesbian pride month so I thought it would be a good time to begin what will probably become a pretty regular feature of this blog – A look in to every text and subtext that is in anyway homoerotic.
Those of you that have the misfortune of studying with me will probably know that I have a gift for seeing gay. By that I mean that I can find the homoerotic subtext in anything and because everyone enjoys my evaluations so much (by everyone I mean me) I thought I would share them with you, my lonely reader. I'm talking about looking at pop-culture though rainbow tinted glasses, everything from out and proud gay love to suggestive looks. But I guess that is enough jabbering for now, let's get to the good stuff.
