These are not my
favorite ships (although some of my favs did make the list), these are the
ships that I think have had the most impact this year. These ships either have
super active fandoms, win all the polls, are the most talked or simply have the
most potential. That said, I’m not an impartial observer and I don’t pretend to
be – this list comes from my own observations and it’s the best that I can come
up with when I have a killer hangover.

Re-watch and recap: Teen Wolf 2012/2013
Right, I'm in Australia (aka I'm from the future) and I hate to say this but looks as though the apocalypse is just not going to happen... which means you're probably going to have to have a bit of free time of the holiday break. Because I'm a nice person, and I'm also incredibly bored/procrastinating life I have decided to do a Teen Wolf re-watch. You know Teen Wolf, that show that has taken over my life and this blog. If you are not already a member of our ever growing wolf pack now is the perfect time for you fall down the rabbit hole and loose yourself to the wonder that is Teen Wolf.
I'm going to recapping each episode as I go along as well as live blogging on Twitter (and possibly Tumblr and be sure to join the conversation on the Facebook page and in the comments. Right well I'm off to watch "Wolf's Moon" - let's get this party started.
Top 10 Christmas Movies
It’s that time of year again, where we deck the halls, try to be merry
and hope to catch that special someone under the mistletoe (although I have
never actually seen mistletoe so I am starting to think it’s an urban myth).
Anyway last year I counted down my favourite Christmas television episodes and
specials, this year I thought why not give the feature films a go. This list is
hardly original and I highly doubt anyone will be shocked by the films that
made the cut but I wanted to spread some holiday cheer so this is happening and
you will like it or you will be on my naughty list (which is not nearly as fun
as it sounds).

Shipping News: It's a metaphor for lesbian sex... also is that Stiles with a girl?
This week’s Shipping
News comes to you a little bit late because I have been pimping my services
to After
Elton for the week… you can read about the news of all things slash here.
Never fear though because I’m back and we have so much to talk about, including
magical lesbians, Winchester jealousy, Delena sex (FINALLY) and a certain
grainy pic has the Sterek fandom going crazy.

Fangirl 101: Queer Baiting vs. Ship Teasing
I wrote a basic
and very vague definition of queer baiting a couple of months ago, and while it’s
a fair description of the problem it seems that people are more and more
throwing the term queerbaiting around when in actual fact what they mean is
ship teasing. There is some cross over between the terms of course, but it’s
important to remember that ship teasing is not automatically queer baiting when
it involves same sex couplings.

Top 5 Movies of 2012
My lovely friend Rach, who recently asked me to compile a list of
the best Skins moments, has set me
another challenge – what are my favourite movies of 2012. As 2012 is not yet
over, I know it’s almost the end but The
Hobbit is coming out and that will hopefully make it’s way into any 2012
lists, it’s not a definitive list… but it’s the best I can do at the moment.

Top 10 Skins Moments
One of my best friends has recently gotten addicted to the Skins youtube channel – it happens – and she sent me this
video, a Top 5 Skins moments, and
asked me to give me my top 5 moments… because I figure more is actually more I
am going to give you my top 10 moments (also because it’s kind of a theme on
this blog). It’s taken me a while (and a re-watch) to compile this list but I
hope you enjoy my Top 10 Skins Moments.

Let’s Talk about Glee, Baby: My Girlfriend’s Back and You’re Gonna be in Trouble
She’s back – I am of course talking about the amazing Miss Quinn
Fabray. Those of you that are new here might not be aware of my obsession with
this character… all I can say is that all will become clear soon enough. This
week nostalgia for the holidays, sectionals drama and I’m thankful for the
lovely Dianna Agron.

A Shipping News Special: It’s Hys-STEREK-cal!
Those of you inside the Teen
Wolf fandom might be wondering… are we actually going to talk about this?
Generally I shy away from confrontation whenever possible but this time the
answer is yes, we are going to talk about this. For those of you are that are
not part of the pack, the Teen Wolf
fandom has been experiencing a little bit of what I like to call hiatus
hysteria (or in this case hys-sterek-a).

UndieGirl talks Tropes: The Love Interest
The love interest – basically it does what it says on the box, because
the love interest’s sole purpose is to be romantically connected to one of the
main characters of whatever television show, movie, book or comic you’re
looking at. Occasionally he or more likely she actually develops into something
more but most of the time this character is simply a series of stereotypes with
a pretty face. As a romantic
subplot is expected in most stories this trope is fairly prevalent but
sometimes it would be nice if they ignored the love story completely rather
than included these shallow characters.

Shipping News: Magical ladylove, Finnick and Jeff Davis’ twitter will be the death of me
Ahoy there shippers (yes the pirate puns are back) hope you’ve been
fairing well over the past week and that you have a lot of time on your hands
because I have so much to talk about. There is a magical lesbians update (it’s
a good one) and some movie spoilers (including Catching Fire). Then of course there is Teen Wolf and the fact that Jeff Davis is ruining my life (I wrote
him a letter, we’re working it out).

Fangirl Confessions: An open letter to Jeff Davis
Jeff, we really need to talk. You see I have this problem – and it’s
kind of your fault and by kind of your fault I mean you have no idea who I am
but I’m buying in to the myth of celebrity (and writer as god) so I’m going to
talk to you like we’re old mates in a way that is just a little bit creepy… but
whatever back to my problem (which is still entirely your fault Jeff).

Let's Talk About Glee, Baby: New Directions needs a Hero
This episode was definitely slightly better than the last couple but that might just be because Glee
has lowered my expectations so far that I no longer know what good is. This
week Blaine has possibly the best post break-up breakdown ever and Finn is
supposed to be a hero but I’m still not buying it.
Thursday, November 22, 2012
Let’s talk about Glee, baby: Grease is NOT the word
So last week I got a tad angry, so I had to take a little bit of a
break from Glee otherwise one of us
was going to get hurt (hint it would have been me) but I’m back and I have two Glee recaps to make up for it – this one
is all about Grease.
Shipping News: All the Bond ships, plus waking up with holiday incest
Okay so most of my favourite televisions shows have gone on hiatus
for an American holiday (Thanksgiving I think?) but don’t worry because I still
have plenty to talk about. I finally saw Breaking
Dawn Part 2 and Skyfall and then
there is some holiday incest that I don’t really know what to taboo with it
(I’m totally puntastic).
Slight spoilers for Skyfall,
Breaking Dawn Part 2 and Teen Wolf Season 3.

Shipping News: Once Upon so many lesbians I don’t know where to look, gay purgatory update and more
Well I’m running a bit behind, I know, I suck. But my friends have
been shipping me with a social life, which is causing some problems with my
fangirling schedule. Anyway enough with the excuses I really just want to talk
about Once Upon a Time, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries (with a little bit of Glee).
Let’s talk about Glee, baby: Shut up cis white boys – the musical
You know how sometimes I can’t help but like Glee even though it kind of sucks, well that doesn’t happen when
the entire episode is about Blaine and Finn whining about how much their life sucks
because they were crappy boyfriends. It’s a week late because all of my craps
were busy hanging out with Kurt and Rachel in New York (I bet Quinn was
visiting that week).

Top 10 Movie Musicals for Mum
It’s my mum’s birthday and because I am a wonderful daughter I
thought why not make a top ten list to celebrate… after much thought and
discussion my mother requested I compile a list of my top 10 movie musicals. Her
wish is my command. This isn’t a definitive list – these are just the musicals
that have captured my heart over the years (and one just for mum).

5 New (American) TV Shows You Should be Watching

quite yet but I thought I would let you know what my five favs were – just so

Shipping News: Once Upon a Femslash Dream
It’s that time again lovely readers, where we turn from the path of sanity and delve into the depths of all things shipping… and if you think I sound a tad over-dramatic you’re obviously not a shipper. This week more magical lesbians on Once Upon a Time, Battleships to their stations at Hypable and Teen Wolf does NYCC. Also TV Guide tells you which couples should have sex, Elena sticks by her choice (The Vampire Diaries) and the Faberry/Sterek battle continues.

10 Other Reasons (besides Sterek) to Watch Teen Wolf
Sometimes it feels like this blog has become a Sterek blog, and
while that’s not entirely a bad thing, I feel like maybe I should explain…
Sterek is not the only reason I watch Teen
Wolf. As strange as it might sound,
there are actually a whole bunch of other reasons to watch this show that have
nothing to do with slash. So before you go dismissing this show as nothing more
than a fangirls wet dream I have decide to give you 10 other reasons to watch Teen Wolf.

UndieGirl Talks Tropes: Nice Guys Finish First
Let me tell you about the ‘nice
guy’. You know him, he’s your best friend, he watches crappy rom-coms with you
even though he doesn’t like them and he would never pressure you to do anything
you didn’t want to do. He cooks, he cleans and he listens to you complain about
the ‘bad boy’ whenever you want to. He’s the kind of friend everyone dreams of
but before you get too excited you should know, all this niceness has an
ulterior motive.
This blog is dedicated to the 'nice' guy, because sometimes he should finish last.
Shipping News: Supernatural takes the ho-yay crown, the media still doesn't get slash and Glee shipper tears
This week, Supernatural
returns and they brought ho-yay for everyone, How I Met Your Mother is going to drag it out forever and Glee broke everyone’s heart. Also more
slash fun at After Elton, The Guardian talks fan fiction and Teen Wolf teases angry Alphas.
Spoilers for How I Met Your Mother (Season 8), Revenge (Season 2), Gossip Girl (Season 6), Supernatural (Season 8) and Teen Wolf (Season 3).

Fangirl 101: Queer Baiting
Ok so I’m hoping that by now you all get the general idea about
slash. I guess the nicest way to put it would be looking at your fav TV show
and not assuming that every character is straight, then if said character
happens to have more urst with a member of the same sex you start to ship them
(as in together together). That’s when the fun really begins – because in those
early stages there is always the possibility that your ship might be the one
that becomes (dare I say it) canon.

Let's talk about Glee, baby: The Break Up
It’s break-up week and ouch, that hurt. Okay so not all of it hurt
but it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park either. I’m pretty sure that most of
the break-ups we witnessed (although I’m not entirely sure who actually broke
up) are not going to be permanent but it’s still not fun to watch. Although I
guess it was getting a bit stale with all the happy couples anyway, long
distance relationships suck and at least Glee
is acknowledging that.

Supernatural: Dean went to purgatory and Sam hit a dog
It’s back! That show about the erotically codependent brothers and
their pet angel. You know the one. The show that I continue to watch despite
the fact that it leaves me in a puddle of tears after pretty much every episode
– let’s not even talk about season finals. But you know what, I like the pain
and I am not ashamed to admit it; I’m kinky like that.
When we left off last season Sam and Dean had been separated again
when Dean and Castiel were blasted to purgatory after they finally got Dick
(I’m going to miss the Dick jokes). So will Dean find his way back to Sam? Does
Sam even want him back? And what about poor Cas is he still in crazytown?

Top 10 Sterek Moments – Part 3
It’s finally here! This is it, I know that all 3 of you (hi mum) are
super excited to find out what the top 2 Sterek moments are, and just because I
am to please, here they are! They might not be the most obvious choice, but
they are the ones that, to me suggest the beginnings of deeper relationship
between everyone favourite hyperactive teenager and Mr. sourwolf.
Oh and don't forget to read Part 1 and Part 2 first.

Monday’s with Mo: The Angels took Manhattan and River stole mum's hearts
It’s another weekly segment, but
this time with a twist. I have for the past 2 years, been introducing my poor
mother to the wonders of my popular culture tastes. It’s only fair really as
she did the same for me when I was a child. Really it’s her fault that I am the
way that I am. Considering the influence she’s had and the fact that I test
most of my meta out on her first before posting it here, I thought it was about
time she got the chance to shine.
It’s fitting that her first post
should be concerned with Doctor Who,
as the reason I found this fantastic program was because of her… and it’s kind
of bitter sweat that we are beginning this series with an end. It’s the end of
the Ponds time with the Doctor, but the start of your time with Mo. You’re welcome.

promise the final part will be up tomorrow.

Let’s talk about Glee, baby: Sex in the City and Lima too
Oh no, it happened, I actually kind of liked an episode of Glee. It’s a sliding scale though so
don’t get you’re hopes up too high. There was more of my beloved Brit Brit and
captain Sam and Blaine wasn’t nearly as annoying as he usually is. Lot’s of
Kurt being adorable with guest star Sarah Jessica Parker and Rachel got me hot
under the collar… it’s still Glee but
it’s got less sting.
Spoilers... obviously.

Top 10 Sterek moments - Part 1
Remember how Sterek won AfterElton’s slash madness tourney? It was
pretty awesome, and in the midst of my excitement at the win I promised to
count down the Top 10 Sterek moments. I thought it would be easy, just a simple
little list, how hard could it be?
Due to the fact that I can’t stop myself from writing about Sterek
this list has been split into three parts. Enjoy part one today – and be ready
for part two tomorrow.

Shipping News: We have a winner, but what do we do now?
You can breath a sigh of relief because the femslash and slash
madness tournaments have finally come to an end with Faberry and Sterek crowned
victors. To be honest the end results were pretty much what I expected –
although I thought Swan Queen would make the femslash final – but the whole
thing was so much fun that it doesn’t really matter. The fact is that the end
of this competition has left an aching hole inside my heart and I need
something to fill it.

Fangirl 101: What is GISHWHES?
You know how I usually try to fight the urge to write about fandom
as if it is some kind of mystical experience… well GISHWHES can only really be
described in this way, so yay. To write it by any other means would be a disservice.
Therefore I cannot guarantee that you will come out of this article with any
answers – but you might have a weird desire to dance the cueca with a judge
wearing a Justin Beiber t-shirt while eating kale.

Let’s talk about Glee, baby: Brittany’s back!
After the lackluster opener you might be surprised that I am even
continuing on with this charade, but the fact is as much as I hate Glee I’m
just too invested to quit now. Plus I new that this episode would feature my
beloved Brit Brit heavily so it couldn’t be all bad… well it wasn’t ALL bad, I
guess.

Guilty Pleasures: Taking a bite out of Bait
So let’s add another layer to the already hefty set of
contradictions that make up my tastes because not only do I love trash
romances, wedding shows and pop music, I also love shark attack movies. I’m not
just talking about Jaws either,
because as awesome as that movie is, and it’s pretty awesome, I prefer Jaws II because of that one time the
shark attacked a helicopter… and won.

Ok so I know I’m only supposed to this once a week but AfterElton’s

Guilty Pleasures: The shame of pop music aka my 15 year love affair with Hanson.
At ten years old we’re all pretty
impressionable. It’s when we finally take that step outside the culture given to by our parents and
start creating our very own cultural identity. It’s also where we start getting
lured into embarrassing fads that will haunt us for the rest of our lives. But really it’s
an amazing time, we get our first celebrity crushes (even though we have no
idea what to do with them), we start going to the movies with our friends
rather than our parents and we purchase CD’s (iTunes downloads now I guess). These early tastes
are important, they affect how we interact with culture from that moment on, so
why is that we are so quick to dismiss our tween loves and childish.
In honour of all our early
introductions to popular culture today I am going to share with you one of the
many loves I found at the age of ten that have stuck with me throughout the
years. That is, of course my love for Hanson. Yes, that band of ridiculously
young boys from Tulsa that wrote one of the best pop songs ever, “MMMBop”. Don’t pretend you don’t remember that song,
even if you weren’t at such an impressionable age as I was when it was
released. It’s catchy as all hell and I love it, even if I am still trying to
work out what exactly an MMMBop is (I think it’s a measurement of time).

Let’s talk about Glee, baby: “The New Rachel”
It’s back. Yup, that show that I hate myself for watching is back on
the small screen (in the US anyway, sorry international folks – check your
local listings for airdates). This show just consistently disappoints, and the
latest ep is no exception. I suppose I should be thankful that it’s consistent in
something at least because this season’s opener could best be described using
the word ‘meh’.
It should go without saying that there are spoilers in this post but
the Internet has taught me that most people are stupid so here’s your warning –
if you have not seen the newest Glee
ep (as in 4.01 aka “The New Rachel”) then do not read this post… unless you
want to be spoiled then go right ahead but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Top Ten: Male/Female friendships on TV
I recently gave you my top ten slash and
femslash ships and ages ago I wrote a list of the most epic romance on TV… So I
guess it’s pretty clear that I love romance (as long as it’s of the fictional
variety). But I don’t want you to think that’s the only reason I love popular
culture. I don’t just ship everyone romantically sometimes I like a good
old-fashioned friendship. Which is exactly what I am going to be celebrating.
This top ten list isn’t just about any kind
of friendship, no the ones listed here are all platonic male/female
friendships. They are difficult to find – it seems that everyone agreed with When Harry Met Sally. But I think these
friendships prove that when a guy and a girl are best friends it can be a
beautiful thing without ever turning to romance.

Shipping News: Equal opportunity kissing with Doctor Who and more slash/femslash madness.
It’s been a couple of weeks since my last instalment of this silly little series and the world of shipping has moved on without me… and boy has it been moving. The Doctor locked lips with someone unexpected, your fav slash and femslash ships are still battling it out, John Barrowman talks Sterek and Tumblr starting shipping AfterElton with Vh1. As you can see there is much to discuss so let’s get started.

Pilot Season: The New Normal
This NBC comedy gives us a new kind of family, although I don’t know how many people are ready to accept it as normal because this show has been surrounded by controversy. It’s already been banned, but any show that tries to suggest a that gay parents might be normal was bound to cause some controversy... I guess they missed Modern Family.

My Top Ten femSlash Ships
If
you are new to fandom (or this website in particular), then you might not know
that AfterEllen and AfterElton are currently holding tournaments in order to
determine the best femslash and slash ship in the whole of the Internets. This
excites me to no end because it encompasses my two favourite things - polls and
slash. I love a good argument more than anything, and the fact that we’re
arguing about slash just makes it that much better.
So anyway, to show my enthusiasm and perhaps even convert some of you to the wonderful world of shipping slash I decided to compile a list (everyone loves a top 10 list). I have already posted my top ten male/male slash ships but that’s just the warm up for this one... It’s the ladies turn, that’s right I am about to tell you my all time favourite female/female femslash ships.

My Top Ten Slash Ships
You might remember that in the last Shipping News, I talked about the
fact that AfterElton is currently holding the Ultimate Slash Madness Tournament
- in which 32 of our favourite slash couples are battling it out for the title
of Ultimate Slash Champion. Now it’s pretty easy to guess that I am a
tad excited about this poll, I mean I love me some slash and I can never say no
to good poll but I have discovered recently that I might be in minority in this
(at least outside fandom circles). So in order to drum up some excitement from
my family and friends I have compiled a list of my top 10 slash ships (not all
of them are in the poll but I still love them so they are here).
